Ohio Magazine: Route 278

The fall colors are all gone now, but not too long ago the roads and highways were a mass of oranges and reds and yellows. Since moving to the area, I've been amazed by how many trees there are, and how great it looks in the fall when everything changes color. Driving down the highway to Parkersburg is almost like riding down a fall colored water slide where the sides go up high above your head. On both sides of the road it's just warm colors all the way to the sky.

For their October issue, I was tasked by Ohio Magazine to document one of the great fall driving routes in the state. Route 278 starts near Nelsonville, and twists through the country side, passing all sorts of vistas and state parks including Lake Hope. Getting up a few hours before sunrise, I'd make my way down to be ready for the first rays of sunshine on the trees. I found all sorts of great images, and incredibly, one of them was picked for the cover of the magazine! Truly an honor, but the joy of photographing the beauty of the countryside was already a wonderful experience.

The cover shot! There's nothing like fall colors creeping up right to the edge of the road.
